Aren’t You Glad They Were Invented

Aren't you glad that some brilliant individual came up with the idea of fitting a battery to a screwdriver so that all you have to do is to press a trigger and hang on while all the hard yacka is done for you?

If you are a building tradesman working in the contracting business, then it is a cinch that in your line of work you will be required to use a cordless electric drill/driver. Most likely you are going to be using this tool every day and probably for long periods at a stretch, so if this is the case, you obviously will want to get a good quality, commercial cordless drill model.

Say for instance you are a gyprocker. You want to put up a gyprock ceiling. Before the invention of the cordless drill, I’m going back a few years now, 25 to 30 millimeter clouts were mainly used.
That means you had to hammer these little blighters, more often than not, clasped between your bruised and bleeding fingers, through the gyprock and into your support beams; usually the joists, which, without adequate bracing would vibrate every time you swung your hammer. This effect would make your hammer bounce off the clout's head instead of driving it in to the joist. At the same time, as likely as not, you would have the weight of a 1200 x 2400 sheet of gyprock balanced on your nut as you are forced to use both your hands to deal with the positioning and hopefully the eventual banging in of the clout.

If this scenario brings back a few bad memories for you, and you are not related to Houdini, then you must have been in raptures with the invention of the cordless screwdriver drill.

Before the appearance of the cordless drill, I used various methods to get my screws tightened. Just previous to the cordless we had the ratchet screwdriver. These tools are still being used today in certain circumstances. This screwdriver works on a sliding spiral ratchet system with a spiral groove machined into the screwdriver shaft so that when you pushed the handle over the shaft towards the screw to be driven the action of the handle sliding over the spiral screwdriver shaft caused to shaft, and so too, the screw, to rotate.

One of the beauties of the cordless drill is the non-existence of a long and dangling cord to get wound around your ankles; a major hazard when in conjunction with having a functioning power tool occupying your mits at the same time. And of course you will have unrestricted use while working in the great outdoors, and not encumbered to the limitations afforded by the powered model that only work in the vicinity of a power point.

The cordless drill is a must for every home Handy Andy. They will provide the user with hours and hours of pleasure and enjoyment. They will make your rotten old boring weekend chores and odd jobs around the house a delight to tackle. You won't be able to get enough.

When comes down to picking the most prized tool that's used in most households by the home handyman, and women too for that matter, the choice must lay at the feet of the common old cordless drill.

What is it about this popular tool that gives them that edge and makes them a must have for every amateur do it yourselfer and professional alike? Well, they're tough, they’re powerful, they’re sexy, and they have a variety of useful built in features.

They're a dead set walk in the park to use and they're as safe as houses. You'd even have trouble electrocuting yourself while using them.

I don’t advise you to stick your wet tongue on the battery terminals to test this theory out, but you probably could do so without too many ill effects, but don't try this at home. As with any power tool, you can’t be too careful and it always pays to follow all of the suggested safety rules that are described in the manual that came with your selected power tool.

Your cordless drill will also tighten screws a lot faster than with the old manual screwdriver method. You could be driving half a dozen screws with your cordless friend in the same time it would take you to rifle through your toolbox in search of one of your old antique hand tightenerupers.
Not only that, they are an absolute pleasure to use and as soon as you get through one job you'll be searching around the house seeking out another, just for the joy of drilling a hole somewhere, sticking a white, red, green or blue plug into it and tightening up on that screw with a simple squeeze of the trigger.

A variable speed control is generally built around the trigger function so that the tighter you squeeze the trigger the faster the drill will work. This feature allows you to start slow to give your screw a little depth before applying full throttle and driving that baby home; if for any reason you want to take your screw out again then this feature will also work in reverse to undo your work.

If your unsure as to what voltage to go for, well, were only talking “work around the house” tool here, so you’d be looking for something in the range of say 9-volt to 12-volt, which will cope quite happily with most of the household drilling and screwing chores that you can chuck at it.
If you’re into doing this kind of thing for a living then it’s going to be a whole new ball game.

Anything You Can Think of Cordless Black

What do you think of when you think of cordless Black & Decker? You may think of small cordless screwdrivers or wimpy tools you only find at discount stores. While I don't think of cordless Black & Decker tools as industrial grade tools, they really have a wide variety of tools that you will find handy around the house, cabin or lake home.

The cordless Black & Decker lineup contains everything from you basic cordless screwdriver, to cordless drills, cordless scissors, tools for yard work including cordless mowers, hedge trimmers, weed trimmers and more. I have one of the cordless Black & Decker weed trimmers and while it doesn't have the power of my gas weed trimmer, it has more than enough to trim up around the house and it always starts. The gas trimmers that I have had typically work for a couple of seasons and then I have to rebuild the carb to keep it running.

One of the really neat tools I noticed in the cordless Black & Decker line is a chainsaw called the Alligator. This tool is a small cordless chainsaw with a clamp below the blade that bites down on the wood you are cutting. It really does look like an alligator! They also have a regular cordless chainsaw and a chainsaw that you can extend up on a pole to cut off limbs a little higher up. Again, these cordless Black & Decker tools don't look like something you would use every day but still, I they have some tools I have never even seen.

Maybe you are looking for a cordless screwdriver for you hobby shop or your camper. Again the cordless Black & Decker line up has several for you to chose from. You can get a very inexpensive tool that will be handy here and there or if you want something with a little more power, try their lithium ***** drivers. Lithium tools offer more run time and power in a lighter weight tool that can charge very fast. Some of these tools have LED lights on them making them handy when working in dark corners, maybe like removing hinges inside a cabinet.

They also handle a variety of drills. While I still prefer having my heavy duty Bosch drill at my side, a smaller less powerful drill will work just fine around the house. While most of the cordless Black & Decker drills are fairly reasonably priced, you can afford to have one in your camper, your cabin or lake home. Many of times these tools are more than ample for simple odd jobs around the home like hanging pictures or drilling a small hole to run a cord or something else simple like this. If you do want a little more power, the cordless Black & Decker line includes 24 volt tools available in a combo kit.

One other tool that I guess you can call a cordless Black & Decker tool is their self adjusting wrench. This crescent wrench adjusts to the bolt head with just a touch. I have read a couple of reviews and while some have been able to break them, many felt they were very handy around the house.

So there you have it, a few thoughts on the cordless Black & Decker tool line up. This really doesn't do their line up justice. You just won't believe the cordless Black & Decker tools available.
