Drill finds its utility in almost all modern woodwork, metalwork and construction activities. An electric drill is any day more popular than a manual drill. To define, drill a tool used to make holes using the rotating drill bit run by electric power or manually. It can also be used as a ***** driver by adding a screwdriver tip to it.

Drills come in various varieties depending upon the need. It includes hammer drills, corded drills, cordless drills, drill press and so on. The selection process of a drill can be long at times, especially in the case of lack of knowledge. While choosing a drill you must the following points in mind:

Material to be drilled

It is important to understand the nature of the material to be drilled, as it will positively affect your choice of drill. If the material is hard it would require with more torque tool with less speed. However a faster one can be used for softer materials. You may select a drill with variable speed. It enhances your options of its usability.

Power Supply

Electric Drills are available in both corded and cordless forms. The corded drills have the advantage of higher rotating force. Thus, these can be used on tougher materials. They also don’t have the trouble of battery discharge. Lastly, due to lack of battery, they are lighter than cordless drills.

On the other hand, cordless drills give you high mobility, a feature of intense use in home and outdoor setups. The cordless power drills also give you great manoeuvrability.

Weight and Handle Grip

The weight of drill surely affects your efficiency. The drill you select must be compatible for long-time handling by not putting extra stress on your wrist and arms. For this, you can experiment with your drills by holding them just above your eye level for as long as possible. It will give you idea of its weight in actual working conditions.

To match the working conditions, drills are available in three shapes or handle styles: T-handle, right angle and pistol grip. The weight is equally distributed to front and rear in the popular T-handle drills. This makes it usable for longer durations. The right angle drills on the other hand provide greater agility. Pistol grips are a better option for swift action.

Manufacturer

Picking up a branded drill has its own benefits. A DeWalt cordless drill will surely give you better results than its local counter part. Moreover, durability should not be sacrificed for price. The spare parts availability and post purchase benefits also must be kept in mind.

By: Smit Mathur

About the Author:

Power tools are essential for those jobs, which require more intense workmanship that ordinary tools cannot handle. A power tool is basically a tool, which is powered by an electric motor or alternatively a compressed air motor or petrol driven motor. They are typically used in the construction industry but are also used around the house to complete those otherwise hard to do jobs. Power tools are used for cutting, drilling, shaping, grinding, painting, sanding and polishing. Machine tools are a form of power tools used in metal work. It is not uncommon for the same power tool to be used both in wood and metal work.

The first used power tool was the lathe. Power tools were initially developed during the time of the industrial revolution. When factories began to use power tools to drive belts from overhead shafts. The main power source was a water wheel or later a steam engine. These tools were stationary until the introduction of the electric motor in the 1880s, which made the self powered stationary and portable tools we know today possible. The electric motor has remained the preferred source by which stationary power tools are driven. These tools use a cord but what has become increasingly popular for portable power tools is the battery. However batteries still have limitations because of they run out and lack sustaining power. Cost of buying and maintaining the use of batteries keep the cordless versions in lower demand on the market. Nailers and paint sprayers more frequently use air pressure, while chain saws, weed eaters and lawn motors have a preference for petrol driven motors.

One of the most popular power tools is the cordless drill, which is a type of electric drill but instead of being connected to a wall socket uses rechargeable batteries. Typically cordless drills come in the hammer drill configuration and mostly have a clutch setting, which allows them to be used for driving screws. In order to continue working without much interruption the tradesman will have a number of spare battery packs charging while drilling, so that he or she can quickly swap them.

The earliest cordless drills used 7.2V battery packs but over the years the battery voltage has increased to 18V and more, thus allowing these tools to produce as much torque as those drills connected to a main power supply. The main disadvantage of most current cordless drills is the use of nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries, which develop a "memory effect" or internal short circuits due to dendrite growth. This severely limits their usefulness and life span and in turn creates a hazardous materials disposal problem. Drill manufacturers are now producing lithium ion batteries. Makita Electric Works and Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation are two such manufacturers producing lithium ion batteries. The main advantages are lack of memory effect and very short charging time. Lithium ion batteries can provide an hour of work per twenty minutes of charging instead of vice versa. These batteries also have a constant discharge rate meaning that the power output remains constant until the battery is depleted, something that nickel-cadmium batteries lacks. This constant discharge rate makes cordless drills much more versatile. Lithium-ion batteries also hold a charge for a significantly longer time than nickel-cadmium batteries, about 2 years if not used, vs. around 4 months for a nickel-cadmium battery.

Cordless drills will increase in their popularity as science overcomes its' limitations and as power tools become increasingly powerful.

By: Amanda King

About the Author:

A drill is used in various materials for drilling holes. It is a rotating drill bit that is commonly used in woodworking, construction and even metalworking. A cordless drill is an electric type of drill which uses batteries that can be recharged. Cordless drill became comfortable electrical machinery for home usage and carpentry work. Aside from this, more improvements in its features are being done to assure the versatility of this drill.

Body: A drill is used in various materials for drilling holes. It is a rotating drill bit that is commonly used in woodworking, construction and metalworking. A cordless drill is an electric type of drill which uses batteries that can be recharged.

In the older days, the earliest drills were called bow drills. This was used by the ancient Egyptians and Harrapans. The drill press was next one to evolve. This was then powered by different power sources. Hence, a great innovation of power machine tools was invented during the late 19th century. This was the time when drills were introduced. In 1889 at Melbourne, Australia, Mr. Arthur James Arnot and William Blanch Brain invented the first electric drill. Hence, Wilhelm Fein of Germany was the one who invented the portable electric drill. Aside from this, a trigger-like switch was patented by Black & Decker in the year 1917.

The drill bit is then gripped by a chuck at one end of the drill. It is then pressed against the target material and rotated. The drill bit's tip actually does most of the cutting work into its target material, which it may slice off with its regarded thin shavings, using auger bits or twist drills, grinding off the small particles (oil drilling), or crushing and removing pieces of the workpiece (SDS masonry).

A cordless drill is a type of electric drill which uses rechargeable batteries. These drills are available with similar features to an AC mains-powered drill. They are available in the hammer drill configuration. They most also have a clutch setting which allows them to be used for driving screws. Another one available in the market these days would be the Right Angle Drills, which allows a worker to drive screws in a tight space. These are currently less useful than the corded version. However, this is since one of its main functions includes drilling holes through joist and studs in order to run electrical and plumbing. Plus, recent battery innovation allows significantly more drilling and large diameter holes are required (typically 1/2"-1" or larger) in order to drain current cordless drills quickly.

Hence, different materials, which depend on the required application of such drill bit, are used these days. The materials are as follows: Titanium nitride, high and low Carbon steel, Cobalt steel alloys, Tungsten carbide, and Polycrystalline diamond.

Coatings of drills also help to lengthen its life and usage. Such coatings would include Black oxide, which provides lubricity and heat resistance; Titanium nitride (Tin), which is used for coating a high-speed steel bit; Titanium aluminum nitride (TiAN), which extends tool life for five or more times; Titanium carbon nitride (TiCN), which is superior to TIN; Diamond powder, which acts as an abrasive to cuts tile or stone; and Zirconium nitride, for the Craftsman's tool.

Many types of electric drills are powered manually. They either use electricity or compressed air. Aside from this, they are driven by an internal combustion engine. Drills such as jackhammers and pneumatic drills are also usually used in masonry and hand-held drills that are for driving screws.

Types of Drill

Hand powered drills come in many variations. These types have been utilized over the centuries. It uses thinner, as well as a longer spindle and bow combination for downward pressure. Plus, it spins by rubbing both hands around the spindle.

Lists are as follows:

• Brace and bit

• ****** drill, also known as "eggbeater" drill

• Bow drill - an ancient tool used in making fire, for primitive dentistry and woodworking

• Gimlet

• Pin chuck, a small hand-held jewelers drill

• Push drill, a tool using a spiral ratchet mechanism

Pistol-grip (corded) drills have a similar shape with a pistol. There are actually endless varieties of its basic form, being the so called, Right-Angle Drill. Thus, it is a drill used by electricians and plumbers.

Hammer Drills are utilized for drilling masonry just like a standard electric drill. Installing electrical boxes and shelves are the typical application of this hammer.

Rotary hammer drills are used in drilling holes for masonry. Hence, the rotary hammer drill is an electric type as well as a percussion drill that uses weight.

Drill Presses may be bolted to the floor and mounted on a stand. It consists of a column, spindle, table, base and a drill head, which is driven by an induction motor.

Geared head drills have safety interlocks. They often install a power feed on the quill mechanism.

Radial arm drills are used for larger work loads. This is used when there is a need to move loads from its column. This is also since geared head drills can only accommodate up to a limited area.

Mill Drills combines the functions of a drill press and a locking collet. This is for ensuring that the cutting tool will not fall from the spindle.

Cordless drills use either an interchangeable or rechargeable battery. This is in order to facilitate its operation.

Examples of cordless drills and their features in the market today are as follows:

1. 12 Volt Cordless High Performance Drill / Driver (Model # HPD12K-2)

Features:

This is a professional grade high torque motor that provides 175 in. lbs. of torque, along with 2 spring loaded batteries that allow easy installation and removal of batteries. It also features a 2 Position gear box, which is for high torque driving and high speed drilling control. Plus, it has a single sleeved chuck with spindle lock, for easier and faster tightening of ***** driver. Lastly, it has drill bit accessories and a 32 Position clutch with micro-adjust torque, for driving various size screws.

2. 19.2-volt Sears Craftsman 11542

The Craftsman 11542 is an excellent value drill that has 420 inches/pounds of torque and two built-in bubble levels. This variable speed cordless drill includes a spindle lock and a 1/2-inch keyless chuck. Its kit also includes two bits, a case, two NiCd batteries with a charger and a light. It weighs about 6 pounds. It price starts at $120.

3. 18-volt Makita BDF452HW

The 18-volt Makita BDF452HW is expensive and weighs 3.5 pounds. It uses lithium-ion batteries, to promote a longer run time. Records indicate that the Makita drill tests that were conducted have shown exceptional performance. It costs $200, along with a 3 year drill warranty and one year warranty for its batteries.

4. 10.8-volt Bosch PS20-2 Pocket Driver

(*est. $120)

The Bosch PS20-2 Pocket Driver has the ability to provide comfort. It is used for light screw-driving works and carpentry. It is packed with a lithium-ion battery and LED light. Thus, this drill weighs only 1.6 pounds. It costs only $120.

5. 3.6-volt Skil iXO2

The 3.6-volt Skil iXO2 is being used in simple jobs such as for needing 2 inches or smaller loads. With 3.6 volts, this drill does not have the power to sustain longer operations. About three hours of charging is needed in order to energize its battery. Its price ranges from $40 to $54.

6. 12-volt Panasonic EY7202GQW

The Panasonic EY7202GQW weighs less than 4 pounds. It is used in driving screws. It only costs $290, along with a one year warranty.

7. Craftsman C3 19.2 volt DieHard Cordless Drill/Driver with LED Light

The Craftsman C3 has a variable speed of 0-400/0-1400 RPM, Braking switch, 1 hour charge, 1/2 in. single sleeve keyless chuck, 19.2 volt DC motor, Auto spindle lock, 2 bubble levels - top and rear, 24-position adjustable torque clutch, bit storage with 2 bits, Built-in LED light and a 2 diehard batteries with charger.

Thus, cordless drills depend on its battery life for its operation length. This means that the longer run time, the more quality work can be done. The ones that have shorter battery capabilities can only be used for small workloads.

However, with the evolution of technology, the latest features of batteries were introduced with great performance to offer, such as the lithium based batteries. Sine these batteries weigh less, they can even lessen the weight of the drill, for easy handling. In fact, even younger ones and women can use cordless drills for home purposes.

By: David H. Urmann

About the Author:

This amazing force offers up to 300 percent more torque than any other drill/driver to date. The driver is powered by a high performance motor that delivers 1,800 RPM and 3,000 BPM for serious, fast fastening and optimal tool performance. Additionally, the impactor is powered by BOSCH's supreme Litheon battery technology. Litheon batteries utilize lithium ion technology in a compact, lightweight design to optimize battery life, power, and runtime. The driver is also designed with a variable speed trigger for a wide range of speeds and applications. BOSCH's impactor uses a 1/4" hex quick change chuck that can instantly change from drill bits to driving bits for ultra efficiency and convenience.

BOSCH's new impactor (driver/drill), weighs in at only 2.2lbs, is sleek and compact, and still packs maximum power and superior force. The tool's ergonomic design and soft grip optimizes operator comfort and control. Furthermore, the PS40-2A has three built-in LED work lights in the front end of the tool to illuminate works areas and increase precision. To prevent slippage and to protect work surgfaces, the tool is designed with bumpers on either side.

With its light weight, superior functionality, and its maximum driving power and hammering action, this tool will simplify woodworking and home- improvement projects. With its comfortable size and industry leading torque, the tool is ideal for both installers and other serious carpenters, as well as for hobbyists. The tool is backed by BOSCH's reputation of power and durability, and their Provantage three year tool protection plan. BOSCH's impactor fastening driver also includes two Litheon 12v max batteries, a 30 minute charger, two 1.5" power driver bits, and a carrying case for security and convenience.

By: Mallory Kramer

About the Author:

The innovation of light weight, powerful and rechargeable batteries like the Li-ion battery or the nickel-metal hydride batteries have revolutionised the way we do our repairing works at home, or the way expert repairers work. With the help of these batteries, many utility tools manufacturing companies have created utility tools such as the cordless drills. These drills are similar in function like that of a normal corded drill. These drills can exert equal amount of pressure and other features are also in tact. However, cordless drills are much more convenient than the normal corded drills, as there are no cords, so no question of a restricted reach.

There are two kinds of manufacturers of cordless drills. The first are those companies who manufacture cordless drills for home owners. In this category, we have companies like Ryobi, Skil, Craftsmen, Black & Decker and so on. The second are those companies which manufacture heavy duty cordless drills for professionals. In this group, we have companies like Bosch, DeWalt, Hitachi, Makita, Milwaukee, Porter-Cable, and Ridgid. The cordless drills manufactured by the latter companies are pricier and are strictly for professional use.

Among all the companies, DeWalt cordless drills are one of the best known and also the most commonly used cordless drills in the world. DeWalt has a long history of making every kind of utility tools, starting from the hammer to the drills. The company has also been making the DeWalt cordless drills for more than a decade.

But very recently, there have been some controversies regarding the recent supply of DeWalt cordless drills. However, the DeWalt company was professional and responsible enough to make a voluntary recall of many of its DeWalt cordless drills, as it posed alleged fire hazard. Although not a single incidence of injury or damage to property was reported, yet the company took the decision, keeping in mind its position as an important player in the market of utility tools.

With so many cordless drills brands available in the market, it is important to identify your usage and reputation of the company, before buying one. For home use, high voltage drills are not required. Any drill can do the work of nailing a hanging on your home’s wall.

By: Smit Mathur

About the Author:

This is a tool with a rotating drill bit used for drilling holes in various materials. Drills are commonly used in woodwork and metalwork. The drill bit is gripped by a chuck at one end of the drill, and is pressed against the target material and rotated at speed. The tip of the drill bit does the work of cutting into the target material, slicing off thin shavings (twist drills or auger bits) or grinding off small particles (oil drilling).

Types Of Drills:

Hammer Drill: This is similar to a standard electric drill, with the exception that it is provided with a powerful hammer action for drilling masonry. The hammer action may be engaged or disengaged as required.

Rotary Hammer Drill: This is an electric drill type dedicated to drilling holes in masonry. This percussion drill uses a weight to create the impact force on the masonry bit. Generally, the drill chuck of this drill is designed to hold SDS drill bits.

Cordless Drills: A cordless drill is a type of electric drill, which uses rechargeable batteries. These drills are available with similar features to an electric drill.

Drill Press: This is a fixed style of drill, which may be mounted on a stand or bolted to the floor or workbench. It consists of a base, column (or pillar), table, spindle (or quill) and drill head, usually driven by an induction motor. The head has a set of handles (usually 3) radiating from a central hub which, when turned, move the drill spindle (and chuck) vertically, parallel to the axis of the column.

Geared Head Drill: This is identical to the drill press in most respects, however they are generally of sturdier construction and often have a power feed installed on the quill mechanism, and safety interlocks to disengage the feed on over travel.

Radial Arm Drill: This is a geared head drill that can be moved away from its column along an arm that radiates from the column. These drills are used for larger work; the arm can swivel around the column so that any point on the surface of the table can be reached without moving the work piece.

Mill Drill: This is a combination milling/drilling machine. This is the latest and one of the best utility Drills available in the stores.

By: Robert Goldsmith

About the Author:

An impact wrench is a tool designed to allow mechanics to apply high amounts of torque to a nut and bolt fastening in order to loosen or tighten the fastening with a minimum of effort. Impact wrenches have traditionally required a connection to an air supply in order to generate the necessary power required to apply the necessary force to tighten and loosen nuts properly. One of the latest developments in the market is the release of a high quality cordless impact wrench that does not need to be connected with an air compressor to gain power.

One of the biggest criticisms applied to traditional air guns is that they are quite an unwieldy tool to use - particularly in a restricted environment such as a workshop. An air gun or impact wrench has traditionally required a great deal of air pressure in order to give it the force needed to work properly, and this has meant it being connected permanently to an air supply or compressor, and having a large trailing air hose all the time.

With a cordless impact wrench, it is possible to entirely dispense with the air hose and air compressor, and give yourself the freedom to move around the workshop quickly and conveniently. Cordless tools are much easier to use and more comfortable. Rather than a stream of air, these tools work more like a traditional cordless drill and use a battery for power, although in order to apply the correct amount of torque to a bolt they do tend to have a great deal more control available.

Many manufacturers offer a range of cordless impact wrenches that are designed to suit every single user, depending on the budget and requirements if the individual. Most manufacturers produce a full range of tools to appeal to all individuals, from the cheap weekend tools designed for occasional use through to professional quality air guns that are destined for high levels of use every single day, and must be completely reliable.

Although the initial outlay for a cordless impact wrench often seems high when compared to traditional models, it is important to bear in mind that without the requirement for a full power air compressor, the total purchase price for the system is much lower, and more affordable to different people, making them accessible to home users.

Traditionally, despite offering a full range of tools, different tool manufacturers appeal to a different group of people. Manufacturers like Makita, despite their high levels of build quality and modern reliability are typically seen as being more driven towards the consumer market rather than more recognised toolmakers like DeWalt and Ingersoll Rand, which offer a much better reputation, and are traditionally the first choice for professionals.

Because Ingersoll Rand is renowned as the world's leading air tool manufacturer, they have a reputation for producing the highest quality and most reliable air tools available. Their range of cordless impact wrenches is wide enough to allow for most uses to be covered, from automotive impact wrenches that are great for the workshop through to high powered industrial wrenches that can be used for heavy duty work in factories and other tough environments.

Ingersoll Rand has a constant policy of product improvement and research that allows them to pursue an ongoing development program. This means that IR air tools use new materials like titanium and advanced motors that are designed to make them even more reliable.

From professional quality tools like the StreetLegal ThunderGun 232TGSL, which is powerful enough for use trackside at a motor race through to entry level models like the 225 Impact Wrench, which are fine for the home mechanic, but still feature pro build quality, and reliability, Ingersoll Rand make a fantastic range of air tools that are suited to all purposes, and all users.

By: Cooper Miller

About the Author:

With the arrival of some extremely light weight, potent and rechargeable batteries, a radical change has been brought to the way we usually perform our repairing works at home. Even many utility tool-makers have availed the maximum by this surge of batteries and launched the utility tools like cordless drills. Cordless drills bring a sense of convenience along as they lack cords, thus eliminate the tensions of a restricted reach.

Home owners now have their choices with the companies like Ryobi, Skil, Craftsmen, Black & Decker to get what the exact needs call for. Professionals even boast of plenty with the firms like Bosch, DeWalt, and Hitachi to precisely serve their repairing and other common needs.

Out of the available choices in cordless drills, DeWalt cordless drill is way ahead in terms of popularity. DeWalt has a reputation for presenting almost every sort of utility tool, and is dishing out the DeWalt cordless drills for more than a decade.

The type of DeWalt cordless drill to be chosen differs with the nature of the project underhand, as there are many variations available. Cordless drills in general vary with their utility, functions, size, weight, power and so on. With the cordless drills, it's feasible to expect and get different speeds. Lower speeds will be better when working with the harder materials. Even you don't need to bother, as cordless drills have an adjustable clutch to support ever type of drill.

Picking a drill with higher voltages might be a good bet, as you need change with times as the materials used change. So have the power to command any job with an impeccable ease and ability, while using cordless drills.

Thinking about the battery to be used in your cordless drills is a fine move, as the life of battery tends to differ with every drill. So giving a try to the cordless drills with two batteries has its own merits. This way, you can have one battery spare to be used later on while working with the first one to save you valuable time.

With cordless drills gaining prominence in roughly all current woodwork, metalwork and construction works, possessing an electric drill turns out to be quite indispensable for all homes everywhere. The electric drills are even more in style than a manual drill and prove their utility by furnishing simplicity and expediency.

With plethora of options in cordless electric drills to pick from, it's always suggested to get along with the brands rather famous. Moreover, identifying the usage ahead of buying cordless drills has many gains to be reaped while drilling.

By: Smit Mathur

About the Author:

In normal use, electric and cordless drills require little maintenance beyond a periodic lubrication and, after considerable use, replacement of the motor brushes that make electrical contact with the rotating commutator. Since maintenance varies with make and model, your best guide is the ever present instruction manual that comes with most new drills. In this article I'll cover the basic steps needed to keep your new drill running for a long time.

If no instruction manual is available to follow, make a rough sketch of the visible parts at each stage of disassembly to guide you in the reassembly. I cannot stress the importance of this step. More than one person has skipped this step and ended up with spare parts. If you're not much of an artist try using a digital camera and snap a picture of each step you take, then reverse the order when putting it all back together. This is my favored method, but the choice is yours.

Some drill bodies are of the "clamshell" type – two halves held together with screws. You lift off the top half, leaving all internal parts in place in the bottom half.

For electric drills old grease should be removed from the gear case and replaced with grease specifically made for drill gears. This grease is readily available at most hardware and home improvement centers. Motor and shaft bearings should be lubricated with light machine oil unless some other lubrication is specified by the manufacturer. Ball bearings are often permanently lubricated and sealed during manufacture and therefore require no additional oiling.

Your drill will let you know when it is need of fresh grease and lubrication: It will start become noisier during use, typically a loud squealing or screeching sound. If possible it is always better to lubricate an electric drill well before it gets to this noisy condition.

With some drills, you will have to remove the front end to expose the gear case and cover section of the handle to expose the brushes. Some drills have brush caps on opposite sides of the body at the rear. To replace the brushes, merely remove the caps, lift out the spring-loaded brushes, and insert the new brushes and springs. Take care not to lose the springs. I repeat , take care not to lose the springs. Watching a spring launch into the dark recesses of your garage or basement can really put a damper on your efforts. Also remember to replace both brushes at the same time

Basic maintenance on a drill is not particularly challenging. It requires a bit of preparation and patience. The end result is a drill that will more than pay for itself versus you having to pay to replace it

By: Chuck Lunsford

About the Author:

Arguably one of the most important inventions in modern times, the portable drill has proven to be one of, if not the, most important and useful tool today. In this article I'll offer a few tips on how to choose the right power or cordless drill for your needs.

Choosing A Drill:

Because of its versatility, the electric or battery powered drill is a wise choice for the homeowners first portable power tool. It can drill metal, wood, plastic, concrete, and perform many other operations as well.

The size of the drill is determined by the largest drill shank (the shank is the part of a drill bit grasped by the chuck of a drill) its chuck will accept, which may be ¼, 3/8, ½, or ¾ inch. The ¼ inch size is probably the handiest for the average job around the home or workshop. A drills power varies with size and make but typically ranges from 1/5 hp for the ¼ inch models to as much as 1 ½ hp for the ¾ inch models. There are some heavy-duty hand held models with higher HP ratings, but for everyday use they would be overkill. Speed usually decreases with size (though turning power increases), ranging from about 2000 r.p.m. for the ¼ inch size to around 1200 r.p.m. for 3/8 inch and 600 r.p.m. for ½ inch drills. The larger ¾ inch drills (more commonly used for professional and industrial work) are commonly in the 250-475 r.p.m. range. The slower speeds of the larger drills provide greater turning power (torque) necessary for driving large diameter bits and hole saws. Today there are models that perform in all r.p.m. ranges.

The high speed of the ¼ inch drills equips them no only to drill holes up to ¼ inch in diameter in metal and ½ inch in wood, but also for sanding. Variable speed control is available on most models these days as well as the feature to reverse the drills direction. The speed control lets you select the best drilling speed. Reverse is useful in backing out wood bits from deep holes.

Heavy duty drills of any given size vary more widely in price than do the light-duty models because of differences in bearings, wiring, and other features. For normal home use, heavy-duty features are not usually needed.

Most power drills are equipped with 3-wire grounding cords to protect the user from shock in case of internal electrical damage. Although becoming rare, if you buy a drill with a 2-prong plug, be sure the tool is a type in which the outer shell and chuck are completely insulated from the wiring. Such drill are commonly termed double-insulated drills.

Cordless drills come equipped as kit complete with one or two rechargeable batteries, battery charger, as well as a polyethylene plastic carrying case. The rechargeable batteries manufactured today are a far cry from the earlier attempts in power, longevity, and durability. 12 volt, 14.4 volt, 18 volt, and 24 volt batteries are now the ordinary instead of the exception.

Whatever drill you buy, check the guarantee as well as the availability of parts. Your best bet is to opt for the quality of a reputable manufacturer. Keep in mind that this is a substantial purchase of a toll you can reasonably expect to be in action years from now. Do your homework; pick the right tools for your needs, take proper care of it, and it will take care of you for years to come.

By: Chuck Lunsford

About the Author:
