New Cordless Drill Emits A Spark?
Just bought a new B&D cordless drill. It emits a spark when you press the on button. Is this normal or defective. I can remember my dads old corded drills showing a spark while it was on. He said it was part of the (something) can't remember. My partner says he's taking it back but I don't think it's anything to fret about.
all electric motors have what are called brush,s there small magnets that ride up against the armature in the motor ,if you look in the back part of the handle you will see vent slots for ventilation of the motor, look in there and press the trigger if you see some sparks that’s what is doing it,if it is constant or some place Else there’s a problem.personally i would return it and see what the dealer has to say.
It has brushes so its normal.
Most drills will spark at the rear of the drill . It is the contact of the bushings sparking on the rotor. Not a problem unless being used in a flammable vapor area or very near very dry tinder. When a power tool gets old and stops working often one needs only to replace the brushes (easy and inexpensive).
hi … I am assuming it sparks inside near where the motor spins. Thos can be quite normal.. All my driss do this and you will see most electric motors do.
When you press the switch it allows the electricity to flow to to the brushes and the windings ( the inner bits of the motor) The windings spin and the brushes provid the electricity to cause the electromagnets to cause the motor ( winding ) to spin. They do spark as the electricty jumps accros the space even though its a very small space to the winding.
I think i explained that correctly.
But anyway its normal for these power tools to spark at times but its not mnormal if the sparks fire out of the drill
Really nice, I enjoy do-it-yourself projects. We have learned a huge amount by doing my diy projects over time, plus I saved a bunch of cash as well
